My appointment was at the end of the day so many people went before me. I'm really worried about getting hepatitis c or other disease. I was worried about hiv too, but it seems from reading on the internet that hiv virus doesn't survive as easily as hepatitis virus. I'm worried sick. Open Question: Have you ever had contact with spirits of people you knew when they were alive?

My father died last August 2008 from heart failure due to hepatitis C. I'll never forget the phone conversation with an officer that informed me my father was 'deceased'. For a week before he died I felt like their were 15 beings/persons around my room standing around me. EVERY d*mn night! I was 36 weeks pregnant when he died. As I fell asleep I also heard a phone ringing all night in my dreams and as I drifted off. About 3 weeks ago I felt my father's presence around me. For three days I felt this heavy presence of him and I started to think I was going a little nuts. I felt so smothered by the feeling and couldn't shake it no matter where I went. The third day I woke up and just felt a queer feeling that I was going to be in a car accident (felt the same way minus the presence of my father when I had an accident in 2004). I went for a drive that day an hour away for an appointment and nothing happened. That night I went to pick up glasses from the optical store and a car that didn't turn creamed into me. One night about six months ago I felt so upset about my father and finally started to let some emotions out (long story of estrangement between him and I) and I was begging my father for contact. The phone only rang once and I answered it. There was nothing but silence and static on the other end for two minutes and then it disconnected. Enough to freak me out! My grandfather died on Mar 16, 2009 and my grandmother was given 6 weeks, two days ago. Both are my father's parents. I also have a cousin that died 1 1/2 years before I was born at the age of 10. I feel her around me a lot. more

Open Question: puppy vaccination in MARYLAND?

Hi, I got a puppy recently and I brought her to banfield. they are requiring all these vaccs for my 12 week old puppy. I already got distemper and corona, and someone told me that I did not need the corona. of these vaccinations, -distemper -hepatitis -parainfluenza -parvo virus -corona virus -leptospirosis -bordetella -lyme disease -rabies -giardia which are the ones that are necessary in Maryland, bcuz I feel like they are trying to over vaccinate her, and the banfield requires me to pay for benedryl prior to the vaccines bcuz she's too young, but is that a necessity (cuz they make me pay for it)? so please list which ones are necessary in the state of MARYLAND. (and plz try not to give me the answers that you are not sure of) THANKSSSSOh yea and also, they gave me the first dose of k9 advantix, and I gave it to her although she's not going outside until she gets All the shots.. anyways it looked like she hated that thing on her back cuz she tried to rub it off on the carpet, is flea control a necessity?? more

Open Question: what does it mean when your alt levels go up and down (132 to 67 to 79 to 117)?

In March, I went for a physical and my alt and ast levels were elevated (alt 136). All other blood work came back normal. I went back 2 weeks later and my levels were down (alt 67 and ast 45). 1 month later I went back and they were slightly higher (alt 79 and ast 48). I just went back last week (June 12th) and my alt levels were high again (117) but my ast levels down (44). My doctor did a hepatitis screening and it came back negative. I'm very worried...any thoughts??? I am having my blood tested for autoimmune hepatitis tomorrow by the gastrointestinal doctor. He didn't know if I was tested for this already or not. When you get a hepatitis screening, which ones does it usually include and should I be worried???? more

Open Question: My dad is very sick in the hospital, for 3 weeks now.....?

My dad drinks a lot of whiskey (gallon a day?) and pops a lot of pain pills due to a back injury. About a month ago my dad cut his finger, never got it looked at until the pain was unbarable. When he finally did, he found out he had wet gangrene and needed it amputated. When he went to the hospital, they wouldn't touch it because they found out his liver was no longer functioning, which is why he couldn't fight off the infection on his finger. He had severe jaundice, kidney issues, blood in urine, and now mrsa (staph) bacteria throughout his entire body...blood, heart valve, etc. They are not allowing anyone in his room without gowns, gloves and masks due to his contagiousness...hepatitis and the mrsa is now airborne. His body is not responding to the antibiotics and he's now had about 10 blood transfusions. It's been three weeks, he's finally detoxed and still very sick obviously. I want to know by a person who KNOWS MEDICINE or DISEASE what his chances are of making it thru this. He also hasn't eaten or been able to get out of the hospital bed.....that's all the info I think. We all think he's not going to pull through and are planning for the worst, but there's some hope....??? more

Open Question: can my sister get liver function tests without her doctor knowing? (UK)?

My sister drinks a bottle of 13% red wine a night (sometimes a glass or two more) She didn't drink at all (ever) until she was 34 (she's now 42) then she just seemed to get the taste for it. She wants to give up, but she's afraid of having withdrawal symptoms (fits etc) so she's cutting back then she says she'll stop completely. However, She has also scared herself silly because she has heard about the death of Emma Pyecroft and started looking up alcoholic hepatitis/ liver disease etc on the internet. She is convinced she has done herself some damage. She did have an ultrasound scan of her liver done last year (and liver function tests) because she had a suspected ulcer or gallstones or something. Her liver looked fine then, and there was only slightly elevated bilirubin levels (which is normal in our family) She doesn't want to go back to the doctor and ask again as she doesn't want "wino" on her notes. So is it possible for her to get tested privately without her doctor knowing? She's worked herself up into some state, and so I thought I'd ask on here. more

Open Question: What does MEPS blood test and urine tests check for?

I went to MEPS months ago and I remember they said the blood and urine tests checked for drugs and std's. So do they check for just HIV? Or do they check for all the 4 "H"s (HIV, Herpes, and Hepatitis A&B)? Does the urine test check for bacterial stds? Medical conditions or general health? It'd be kind of nice to "know for sure" that my one and only boyfriend never gave me anything. He only had been with one other person but I'm a biology major and I'm familiar with the statistics so you never know. And I know you can test blood samples for tons of stuff so I wish they'd tell you all the interesting stuff about your blood while they're bothering to stick you. more

Open Question: Explain Purell & Viruses Please?

I'm a little lost about Purell hand sanitizer. It says that it "kills 99.99% of germs that make you sick" but then when I read the section about whether or not it kills viruses, it says this: "We appreciate your concern. The FDA does not allow anti-viral claims on these types of products therefore, we cannot make any claims as to PURELL's effectiveness against viruses, such as colds, flu, SARS, HIV or Hepatitis." So if they can't make any claims to it killing any of those things, then what DOES it kill? That's like everything I would use a hand sanitizer to kill anyway lol. And yes, I do understand that you can't really "kill" a virus because it's not alive in the first place. A virus can, however, be disabled or destroyed. I work in a restaurant and I clean the building. I swept dust and trash into my dustpan, including the one in the restrooms. When I dumped the trash and dust in my dustpan into the trash can, they accidentally touched my cut on my finger.
